What I liked
Staff in Recovery, Pharmacist - excellent
What could be improved
My stay over several days was far from pleasant.
During the minor operation under local (spinal)anaesthetic I realised that a student was working on me under supervision – my permission was not requested; dignity was not a consideration as I heard inappropriate comments which related to me.
Similarly in Matthew Whiting Ward dignity was a low priority; I would be most unhappy if my daughter found herself in this environment. While some of the nursing staff were friendly and caring others were just ‘doing a job’ – in their own time.
Anything else?
Poor communication and coordination between departments brought about errors and delays – which are costly to both patients and the NHS. Surely staff with different specialities and expertise should work as a team to champion dignity and care.
