My son was recently admitted to East Surrey's A&E suffering from a hyperthyroid toxic storm. Needless to say, he was extremely unwell with a raised heart rate, shortness of breath and unstable. He was initially treated in A&E and then transferred to AMU. His treatment in A&E was outstanding, from the receptionists, the porters, the Drs and nurses. He was treated with dignity and respect, he was listened to, and I felt safe on his behalf - so much so that I was reluctant for him to be moved from A&E! How many departments we say this of?! However, AMU were equally outstanding so I instantly felt he was again safe. Hyperthyroid toxic storm is very frightening and presents like a cardiac event so it looks very scary. I am a healthcare professional and even I was frightened. However, the courtesy and professionalism of all the staff at East Surrey made me feel better on my son's behalf. I cannot praise my colleagues enough - thank you.
