I was booked in for an operation on Monday 25th. I told my doctor at the time that this was a bank holiday and they said that's fine. Today (4 days before the operation!) I received another letter saying my operation is booked for 1st June. I phoned the hospital and was told that "someone should have phoned me to tell me that a mistake had been made and operations are not done on bank holidays". I received no such phone call, no apology and spoken to as thought it was not an issue at all. A holiday had to be re booked for the week before the operation, costing £500 which is now not necessary and is absolutely ridiculous that this much money has been spent due to a doctor being unable to use the booking system correctly. My sick dates from work have been arranged which are now being messed around which has resulted in a loss of income. My partners holiday has been messed around and he is now on a business course the week of my operation meaning I have no care at home. I am absolutely disgusted with the ignorance from the doctor even when we stated it was a bank holiday, the way the receptionist spoke to me like it was totally acceptable and the loss of earning, loss of money moving holiday and the general nuisance it has caused. Sadly I desperately need this operation, if I didn't then I would never step foot into this hospital again. It's been a shambles from the very beginning of my consultations.
