This is the 2nd time in so many months I have had to use the a&e in Wigan. The 1st time was with my mum when she had stage 3 cancer and had a reaction to chemotherapy, I had seen posters around the hospital of them winning awards and after both experience's I dread having to go back. My mum did not see a Doctor until after 4 hours of having to lay on an uncomfortable slim bed, she was in a lot of pain but no one seemed bothered. We repeated why we were told by Christies to take mum to a&e to at least 6 different people while waiting to see a specialist. My mum sadly passed away not long after, but the careless attitude left me feeling guilty and sad as mum kept telling me she didn't want to be there. I then had to go myself this week as I suddenly had the worse pain with breathing and could not cope, it was busy but you could clearly tell I was having problems breathing, After a couple of hours I was seen by a doctor given antibiotics on a drip blood tests taken and x ray. I had no idea what was wrong and got no explanation from the doctor I couldn't talk to ask questions and after 2 more hours begged my husband to take me home. Luckily he knew one of the nurses who sorted taking the drip out and getting my tablets quickly to take home. They advised my husband that it sais in the notes could be chest infection, The blood test results can take 2 to 5 days so I rang to see if they had the results back as I didn't want to take antibiotics unnecessarily. I was told they didn't have the results back yet but to just keep taking the antibiotics. Still non the wiser as to what caused such pain, just glad it has eased off. Fingers crossed I wont need to use A&E.

Thank you for your posting following your 2 visits to A&E. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. It is disappointing to read your comments and your experiences on both these occasions. If you wish these to be looked into on a more formal basis then please do not hesitate to contact the Patient Relations Department who would be able to take this forward for you. The Trust is always happy to received comments both good and bad to allow us to learn from the experiences of our service users.
