Recently whilst waiting in the podiatry/dental area at LE Health centre I witnessed a carer accompanying a patient.
The carer asked at the clinic if there was a hoist available as the client needed pressure relief. The client was suffering i felt.
A hoist was located but the staff member was not trained to assist. The member of staff phoned people before getting permission for the carer to use the hoist, as they were trained. When I left the carer was struggling to fit the sling.
In a health centre there should be first aiders on duty trained to assist with hoisting. Obviously if the building has a hoist it is expected to be used. The main desk should help to locate a hoist and assistance.
