"My first operation"

At age 73 I was very anxious about surgery, albeit of a comparatively minor nature, and requiring a general anaesthetic. This was my first time in hospital requiring an anaesthetic. I had no need to be concerned about any aspect of the procedure particularly having been given my own room with en-suite facilities as a day patient. The value of having these facilities immediately available was a significant importance in minimising any stress that I felt. The staff were excellent and created both a relaxed and professional approach to all aspects of the procedure. This, importantly, minimised any stress that I felt about the procedure and therefore aided recovery. It is now one day on from the operation. I feel fine and would have no hesitation in recommending this hospital to anyone. I am a NHS patient and hope that my attending this hospital does not increase the strain on NHS funding. However I believe that any additional cost that may have been incurred involved was extremely good value for money. Long may such co-operation between private and public hospitals continue within the NHS programme. I recognise that both offer a valuable service and together give added value. As a final point stress was further reduced by the provision of free parking at this hospital. This may seem a minor point bur every single thing that reduces stress in the hospital environment pays dividend in health.
