"Pains in my chest"

Recently at about 09. 30 hours on a Monday in Spilsby, Lincolnshire I said to my husband that I was beginning to get those pains in my back and chest. He stopped the car in a nearby carpark and asked me if I wanted to go to the doctor’s. Within minutes I said I would so we staggered across to the surgery and I told the receptionist I was getting pains in my chest. She immediately went and found a doctor who saw me straight away and after a few moments took my husband and I around to the Nurse Practitioner’s room.

The Nurse Practitioner immediately connected me up to a ECG machine whilst the doctor called for an ambulance to take me to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital. Both the Doctor and the Nurse Practitioner were kindness itself. I could not have asked for more in terms of their efficiency and understanding.

Admittedly the ambulance took some time to arrive because it apparently had to travel from Mablethorpe to Spilsby but upon arrival the crew could not have been nicer.

They quickly moved me to Boston hospital where I was examined straight away and once again hooked up to an ECG machine. Following this I had lots of blood taken which was sent away within the hospital for testing. A short time after this a doctor came and asked me many questions regarding how I had been feeling and what if anything I had been doing prior to the pain starting. A few moments later I was taken down for a chest x-ray, finally being taken back to A & E where another doctor asked me lots of other questions before going off to check the results of the blood test and x-ray. In the meantime a Staff Nurse came in to me and connected me to a monitor. The doctor came back to me before very long and told me that none of the tests showed that I had any heart problems and that he thought it must have been muscular especially as I do suffer from Fibromyalgia. He then told me I was free to leave hospital.

My husband of almost 48 years traveled separately to the hospital by car and upon arrival told the receptionist in A & E who he was but was kept waiting for about an hour before he could come through to me to be by my side. This I found somewhat distressing. It would have been nice to have had him there with me.
