"A long time waiting for a final decision"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

In mid-May, around midnight I was admitted to the A&E department with a racing heart beat. This has happened before and usually I receive an injection of some type which slows the heart beat down. The same procedure happened this time and as before I was kept in overnight for observation.

This time I was left on a trolley all night in a holding bay and was given breakfast at 7am after having no sleep all night. At about 9am I was seen by a doctor who informed me I could go home, so I waited for a nurse to remove my canula and disconnect me from the monitor. After 30mins I asked a nurse when I was going to be seen to which she replied I will see Sister. The Sister came to see me and informed me that I had to see the Cardiac team so I was being admitted to a ward.

About an hour later I saw another doctor who examined me and told me I was to see the cardiac team who would be making a plan for me. I was still on the same trolley in the same holding bay and noticed many people who came in after me were going on the same ward that I was supposed to be admitted to.

At 12.30pm I was asked if I could vacate the trolley as it was needed for another patient so I willingly obliged. I was taken to a waiting room put in a comfy chair and left until 2:45pm when my patience was starting to wear thin and went back to see Sister and asked to be discharged. Sister acknowledged that I had been very patient and asked me to go back to the waiting room where a nurse would come and see to me.

I waited a further 30mins when a nurse came in, asked what had happened and asked if I could allow her some time to try and sort things out. I waited till 4pm and went to see the nurse who was at her station. I asked please can you tell me what is happening? she replied a cardiac nurse was coming to see me but was dealing with a case in Resus. I asked her why she had not informed me but she just ignored me and carried on writing.

I was finally called in to see the cardiac nurse who could not apologise enough for the treatment I had received. She told me that I should have been discharged that morning and was not aware that I was still there.

This experience has left me with a painful back which has not helped the Sciatica I am suffering with.
