"Feeling like I'm responsible for my own care"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Whilst on Ocelot ward I have not seen a Dr or had a review since becoming an inpatient for over 24hrs and counting. The Dr I initially saw wanted to send me home and only my husband arguing with them allowed me to stay and have further tests revealing that my condition was getting worse. Since being on Ocelot I was admitted at 1am and they didn't let me sleep til 2 and then woke me at 6am. Despite being on fluids and prescribed anti-sickness drugs I've had to ask for my own medication as they wont actively administer it to me. My blood pressure has dropped and still they won't review despite being on a drip. My husband spoke to the nurse for an update. He asked what the plan was and the nurse kept on referring back to what the Dr had said. When he pointed out that the Dr wanted to discharge and no one had seen them since they were admitted nor was a Dr involved in the admission procedure the nurse stated that they knew what was needed. Got to say that the lack of communication, the fact that my husband has had to constantly pressure and ask for treatment is not acceptable. Compared to my recent experience in Kent ward for the same condition I can only put it down to the quality of care and staff on Ocelot ward which is frankly dangerous. I still don't know what is happening. I don't know what my treatment plan is. I'm concerned that because I've not been involved I will be discharged without an appropriate plan and then will end up being admitted again. Hopefully to a better ward as this one is frankly not fit for purpose. What inspires the most confidence is the staff constantly referring to what the CQC has raised as issues and seems to be the only things that they are bothered about. This is obviously having some effect but at the detriment to basic communication and the use of a Dr as opposed to a rarely seen aloof nurse and a bunch of clinical support workers!
