"Day surgery unit - ward 20"

About: Bishop Auckland Hospital

Nursing and medical care was faultless, nurses could not have been more attentive, the 6 's of nursing all clearly evident with a particular mention for the ward sister and two staff nurses. The negative for me which lets the unit down, though the staff try their best to manage it, is the physical design of the unit. The design does not allow for maintaining patient dignity, ladies have to walk past male waiting area from changing cubicles in gowns, also theatre is across the corridor passing a busy and open visiting area, again not very dignified for patients who may well be already anxious. I cannot reiterate enough the professionalism of the staff, but for a modern hospital, the design is incredibly poor.
