"Trying to get advice on baby's allergy to milk"

About: Bromley Healthcare / Dietitians (Bromley) Bromley Healthcare / Health visiting

(as a parent/guardian),

Originally visited the GP who informed me that this is not their area of expertise and that I need to see a dietician - they could not provide any information as to where I can find one but told me to go to my health visitor about this, who should be able to advise me.

After waiting for 5 days for the next health visitor clinic I was told to go to a 'drop in' session to the nearest children's centre. The session was 3 weeks away - a referral and appointment procedure with the dietician, I was informed, would take even longer.

After waiting for 3 weeks, showed up to the 'drop in' only to be informed that it was full, as, only 6 families can be accommodated each time.

The alternative? Got to another children's centre, after having to wait another week and have to travel for more than an hour to get there, with no guarantee I will be seen.

In the meantime my 7-month daughter can't have baby formula or any dairy, and I have received no guidance whatsoever as to what I need to avoid or look for.

Surely there must be a better way to get some advise and support when it comes to baby's health issues?

Thank you for your posting Cortana.

Please can you provide me with your name, the name of your baby and your address to the following email address (amanda.mayo@bromleyhealthcare-cic.nhs.uk) and I will ask a Health Visitor to contact you directly to discuss the concerns you have regarding the formula milk.

I am so sorry that you have had this difficulty and this is not the service we would envisage we are able to offer our clients.

Please do get in touch

Kind regards

Update posted by cortana (a parent/guardian)

Dear Amanda,

thank you for your prompt response, I will email you details shortly.

I have also been speaking with the community dietician about this earlier today and I would like to say that staff I have spoken to, have been very helpful and tried to assist in any way they can, despite the limitations of the system, which, in my view, unfortunately remain. This speaks to their dedication and professionalism, which should be praised.

Thank you,

Thank you Cortana

I have responded to your email today and forwarded it to both the Health Visiting Lead and to the Head of Childrens Dietetics.

They will be intouch shortly.

I am aware that Bromley Healthcare have dietitian drop-ins most weeks in the children's centre. If a child needed to be seen urgently, they can attend another drop-in in the borough if convenient. The drop-in sessions are on a first come first served basis however if people are turned away by the centre staff there may have already had many parents waiting.

I hope this is helpful to others who may read this Blog

Have a good weekend

Kind regards
