"The centre runs a lot of drop-in ..."

About: Tarner Childrens Centre

(as a relative),

What I liked The centre runs a lot of drop-in sessions for people with young children. I enjoyed the weigh-in sessions for my baby, there were lots of toys out and lots of opportunities to talk to and meet with mums of children of a similar age. My partner goes to the Dads playgroup and says it is excellent. There is a good cafe which offers cheap food, toys for children to play with and again an informal setting that makes it easy to talk to other parents. Lots of leaftets with advice, and details of other groups that are run. Friendly staff. Very welcoming. What could be improved? Advice from the health visitors was sometimes misinformed and/or out of date. I was advised to begin feeding solids to my baby before 6 months (which contradicts NHS advice). I was also told to only breastfeed my very young baby at 2 hourly intervals. I found out for myself that when babies go through 'growth spurts' that they sometimes cluster feed. Anything else? Make sure health visitors are better briefed and this would be a perfect centre!
