"The fact that I was only a visitor"

About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

(as a relative),

What I liked

The fact that I was only a visitor

What could be improved

The ward was dirty. There was a blood stained swab on the floor for 2 days, obvious dirt in tyhe corners, toilets were not clean.

An elderly patient was put onto a commode and despite her repeatedly calling for help, plus myself and another visitor repeatedly informing nursing staff that she needed help, we were told " I will be there in a minute" and by the ward sister "well that is down to the care assistants" and the poor lady had to wait nearly an hour for someone to take her off the commode. It is an utter disgrace, and how Frimley can be a foundation hospital with this quality of care is scary. I do appreciate the nurses are very stretched - there was never enough staff on, but this demonstates that lack of staff affects quality of care. Frimley should hang their heads in shame.

Anything else?

I was only a visitor, I would hate to be a patient.

Thank you for taking time to comment on your experience of Frimley Park Hospital. The scene you describe is certainly not acceptable, nor is it typical of the care our patients receive as you will see from most of the postings on NHS Choices. We try to encourage patients and visitors who observe lack of cleanliness on the wards to raise this with ward managers as a matter of urgency. It is not clear from your posting whether you were able to do this, however it would be very helpful to us if you were to contact us directly to provide more details of where and when you visited. With your assistance, we can investigate what went wrong and take steps to prevent it happening again. The best way to contact us is via our Patient Advice and Liaison Service at palsusers@fph-tr.nhs.uk, telephone 01276 526530.
