What I liked
i liked nothing, i was with my girlfriend who had been brought in by amulance after colapsing from stomach pains, the ambulance just put her in reception and she wasnt even checked over by a nurse before being shoved in a waiting room, what was bad was she was sitting in a chair struggeling for breath and vomiting and nobody came over to help or even give her a bowl.
she sat there for 3 hours before she was seen by a nurse who immediently put her in a cubicle and on oxygen, the nurses were great, after 20 mins on oxygen my girlfriend continued to buzz the alarm for assistance as her pain was getting worse and she was vomiting blood.
What could be improved
there was a nappy on the floor in reception and sick that had tissue over it and it remained there for 4 hours. so it needed a good clean and a review of patient care
Anything else?
something that you may not believe...finally after another 2 hours of sitting in a bed a doctor came along to my girlfriend and felt her stomach and said nothing and gave her paracetomol. at that point my girlfriend was in tears and just wanted to go home and see if she could sleep off the pain, i decided to walk her up to the hospital cafe to get a drink but in the cafe she colapsed again and continued to vomit, a paramedic who was in the cafe put her in a chair and rushed her back down to a&e were again she was just put in reception for another two hours without being checked, i eventually got angry and went back to the nurse who had giving her the oxygen to ask for her to be seen.
the nurse was very nice and put her in a cubicle and was outraged the doctor had dischared her, he put her on a drip and injected her with antibioitics and left her to have a little sleep.
while she was asleep i went outside to make a call, but when i came back i found my girlfriend outside the room slumped over a chair, it turned out a doctor kicked her out the room as there was no rooms avaliable.
my poor girlfriend sat there covered in sick and linked up to a drip shivering and very distressed.
she was discharged 3 hours later by another doctor who told us it was a very bad stomach virus.
that night she got worse so i drove her to another hospital were she was told her appendix had burst so they removed them.
i was very angry with darenth not just for not knowing it was her appendix but for leaving her after she had colapsed twice and was an asthmatic.
i will never go to this hospital again, and thanks to them my poor girlfriend spent 3 weeks in st thomas's hospital as because her appendix had burst and it went un-noticed for hours she developed a very bad infection
"i liked nothing, i was with my ..."
