My 24 year old daughter came home after being told to take a week off before starting her new temp job as she had been vomiting. Towards the end of that week she came home, feeling generally unwell. Following another poor nights sleep she was feeling generally very unwell and had an extremely painful throat but was insisting she had to travel back to Cardiff today so that she could go back to work tomorrow. Decided to contact GP's surgery and answerphone told us to call 111. The 111 service worked well and within an hour she had spoken to a nurse and then received a call from a doctor who scheduled an appointment with our out of hours service - 9 miles away.
All seemed to be going according to plan but on arrival at the out of hours service at the War Memorial hospital in Andover, Hants, she was greeted by a someone who was barely able to pronounce her name, such was their level of English. After waiting an hour past her appointment time, and only one patient being seen in that time and 4 people still in front of her in the queue they made the decision to leave so that she could still get to a pharmacy, before it shut, to stock up on throat spray and my husband had to leave as he had a flight to catch. Dreadful service, she will now have to wait & try again tomorrow & hope that her job will wait for her. No wonder people go to A & E!
