"Disgusting hospital"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Absolutely disgusting hospital! is the best way to describe it! I took my 16 day old baby after doctors referred us as he wasn't gaining weight and was been sick after every feed and wasn't settling.. was taken to the childrens ward (nightingale) where the nurse spoke to me like dirt and told me i was a neurotic mother and wanted something to be wrong with my baby.. after 3 days of him not keeping any feeds down we went in again and stayed in for 3 nights i couldn't settle my baby and the nurse (the same one again) walked past tutting because he was keeping other patents awake!! the dr came and did tests on him one including listening to his chest and heart he was then sent for an xray with no one telling me why! in the xray room i had to physically hold my baby down as instructed when the xray came back (of his chest) they said his arm looked broken! so was sent for an xray on his arm after me telling them there was no way his arm could be broken he was moving it fine and how does a 16 day old baby break its arm i was told my health visitor would have to be informed that they said like it was some sort of threat wasn't at all bothered i knew his arm wasnt broken and i had nothing to hide the nurse then just popped her head round the curtain and said his arm isnt broken the xray is back no appology or anything he was discharged again without getting to the root of the problem took him back to the drs and he was diognosed with reflux and was given gaviscon to put in his bottles and hes now fine and thriving my advise would be to avoid that hospital like the plauge!!

I'm really sorry you feel that you and your baby were not treated well when you stayed on Nightingale Ward. We wouldn't anyone to feel they were badly spoken to or made to feel that they were 'neurotic'. We'd want you to feel confident about using our services again if you needed them, so if it would help to talk to us about your experiences please let us know. You can contact our Assistance and Complaints Service on 01246 512640 and they are open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm. I hope that your baby is continuing to make good progress. Best wishes Sarah Turner-Saint, Head of Communications.
