"Entering hospital for an operation"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went into the Surgical Admissions Lounge for an operation. From the time that I arrived I was treated so kindly and caring. I was told that I was a priority patient, due to my various problems.

I saw the nurse who took my details, she gave me my gown and stockings. Then I had blood taken and medication given. Then the Surgeon came to see me and was excellent in explaining what they were going to do and that I would be put on the HD ward so they could keep check on me. I was a bit shocked about this, but once she explained then I understood.

At all times, my husband was allowed to sit in with the talks. Then I was visited by the anaesthetist, who again was top class. She said that she had been following my case for a number of day, and really did know everything about my condition.

It was all systems go for the op, I was first on the afternoon list. Unfortunately, a problem then arose, once they saw a fax sent through from my GP. This showed them the results of a 24 hour heart machine that I had a few days before. It showed a few episodes, so they had to have a meeting about this, and the agreement was, that I would be referred to a Cardiologist ASAP and then once it was sorted out, then I would have my op.

They were so apologetic, they gave us tea and sandwiches, a ticket for the car park machine, which reduced our payment. They were ALL so lovely and professional.

I think the NHS is marvellous and have been treated so kind and with dignity. I will not be at all worried when I have to return for my op, as I know I will be in the best care and their capable hands.

Dear Palace

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in the Admissions Lounge with us. It is a nice to read such positve comments. I am sorry that your operation did not go ahead this time. I hope the appointment with the cardiologist goes well and we see you again for your operation in the near future.

Best wishes

Fiona
