"Novovirus on 2nd Floor Duchess Building"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

Musgrove may like to consider than moving a patient from an area that has Novovirus to one that is clear results in the clear ward becoming infected! Family member now in infected area, absolutely no clear instructions from staff on what he can/cannot do, whether children can visit etc. Hand washing etc etc. Family Member's treatment now delayed because of poor protocol by Musgrove staff.

I am sorry to read of your concerns regarding Norovirus but I would like to assure you of the following: In line with national guidelines, when a ward or bay in the hospital has norovirus restrictions in place, no transfers of patients are made from that area to other parts of the hospital or to other healthcare organisations such as Nursing Homes or community hospitals. Patients however may be discharged if returning to their own homes. Hands should be washed with soap and water before leaving the area and visiting is restricted to essential visiting i.e close family and friends only - this may include children if essential that they visit. Patient leaflets are available on wards with norovirus restrictions in place which include advice regarding hand washing , visiting etc and staff working on the ward should be able to advise on this. I hope you find this helpful but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact one of our PALS Officers who would be very happy to help you if you would like to call them on 01823 343536 or email pals@tst.nhs.uk Lucille Hoose.
