I was rushed into ED at Royal Cornwall Hospital after suffering what my GP diagnosed as a potential heart attack. Ambulance crew and RRV crew were satisfied that my condition warranted blue lights. On admission to ED I was placed into cubicle 21 and wired up to heart monitor. After one hour wait I was finally seen by a Dr who was more interested in my being an ex smoker than anything else. My heart monitor and BP monitor were removed and I was then just dumped for a further two hours without seeing anyone! After trying to gain anyone's attention I calmly collected my things, stood outside curtain to my cubicle and then proceeded to leave the hospital. On my return home there was a phone call on my message service from ED nurse who had 'found me missing' and wanted me to contact them on my return home. I did this and explained the situation, and was then told that 'change over' staff were busy (fully appreciate this). I overheard the change over details being given re: patients in ED and heard that the bloods that had been taken from me had been 'misplaced' but that it wasn't important! I have had this 'condition' for five years and so far have received no treatment due to being treated (wrongly) for strokes/TIA's.......words fail me. This is appalling treatment and whilst I understand the strain the NHS is under, surely the welfare and well being of patients has to be paramount? Or should I have done as I was told by member of nursing staff and 'kicked off then I would be seen'?
