My father has cancer and was rushed into hospital on Wednesday 22nd April due to low sodium levels and other reasons that we don't know yet. He was supposed to have an appointment with the Eye Clinic about his eye, which is believed to have been affected by the cancer. They took a mri scan on the Monday and we were due to have the results on Thursday 23rd at 11am. When I called the ward Dad had been taken to in order to find out what we could do about Dad having to miss the appointment due to being in hospital, they had no record of him having an appointment. I then had a call back after the staff investigating and they said that as Dad was too ill to go down, a doctor from the clinic would be up that afternoon. We waited and no mri results were delivered that day. It's now the following day (well over 24hrs since the appointment) and we still have no information. There was also no handover of treatment plan. When we arrived, we were surprised to be asked if we knew if Dad should be having liquids or not, as there was nothing in his records. I asked the nurse why we didn't know this, and the response was that there was no handover from the previous nursing team. There wasn't even a note as to whether the drip he was on should continue. They even had a note stating Dad should have eye drops in the left eye.... completely incorrect, it should be the right!!! The nurse was very good and understood our frustrations, and said they were on to "bleeping the team again" for more information, but this just is nowhere near good enough. The communication between staff in this hospital is non-existent.
"Lack of communication between staff means patients..."
