"Today i visted an 90 year old ..."

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

Today i visted an 90 year old elderly lady i knew in hospital.. she got admitted yesterday and she got taken to the thomas kemp tower. When i got there the reception staff didnt pay attention and were too busy chatting to each other. Eventually we were taken to her bedside. The elderly lady said that she was very uncomfortable with the amount of pillows that were jus piled up & not suited to her needs she has asked for. Also she said she was cold, The nurses hadnt put any underwear on her and dressed her properly ( even though there was clothes & underwear provided in the packed bags) We then soon discovered that her bed was wet, goodness knows how long she was left like this, We informed the nurses that she was she was wet and needed re-dressing, they seemed very rude about it, and didnt handle her carefully. Food-wise - she wasnt fed very well, her lips were cracked and she was dry as she hadnt been given any water.

Now i know i saw that undercover programme of the nurse who got sacked, I couldnt believe it till i saw it myself. I dont feel very reasurred if i ever fell ill & got old that i would actually be taken care of. Overall this was a very poor visit, and i cant actually believe how awful these elderly people are treated.

Anything else?

The only decent thing i can say about this hospital is the security. While we were there was a dog left in the car, with a flat tyre. The security was very professional.

Also i was pleased about the amount of alcohol hand gel around the hospital.
