"nervous in coventry"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

I was given a referral by my gp and I was given the choice of 5 hospitals, none of which were local to me, but I chose Coventry as we have family there and we could visit at the same time. After a number visits to outpatients, I was given a date for an op. Leading up to the op all was going well with regards to pre-op etc... The day of the op arrived and I was a nervous and emotional wreck! Knowing I had to have a general was scary enough but not knowing for definite that the op didn't leave me looking like I'd had a stroke was leaving me scared. All of the staff on the the day unit and in oitpatients were awesome. Made me feel completely at ease. Top marks. The only criticism I have is the ward doesn't let anyone sit with you while you wait for your op. (E.g. your partner) You're on your own, which is another reason why I panicked. I would like to see the option of having someone be with you while you wait.

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent experience of the day surgery unit and outpatients department at University Hospital, Coventry in April 2015. I am delighted to hear that on the whole you had a positive experience and our staff made you feel at ease. Coming into hospital for an operation can be an anxious time for a lot of people and we do our best to try and reassure them. Unfortunately visitors are not allowed to stay with patients who are waiting for surgery; this is to maintain and protect the privacy and dignity of other patients and to follow guidelines issued by the Department of Health. However, patients are allowed visitors during Trust visiting times. However the Trust is grateful for all feedback, positive or negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients, so please be assured that all your comments will be shared with the relevant staff. Thank you for leaving your comments on NHS Choices. Communications Team University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust Telephone: 0800 028 4203
