"The nurses were friendly, competent ..."

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The nurses were friendly, competent and very reassuring. One in particular would come in after every visit from a doctor/consultant to make sure I felt I'd been told what I needed to know and talk through the visit. The consultants were, well, consultants, but one of the more junior doctors in particular was a gem also.

I felt like care was taken by each member of staff dealing with me to keep themselves up to date on my notes and what was going on with me.

I was lucky enough to have a private room, which was a huge bonus, I hate wards!

Constant cleaning was a bit of a pain but at least it made you feel everything was sparkling.

Food was great for mass catering.

What could be improved

As always, consultants don't ever tell you what you've been tested for or what they're investigating. I had to throw a grade 1 hissy fit to get told exactly what tests they'd done and make it clear they could use big words around me because I could actually understand them. After that they were much clearer in their explanations :D

Anything else?

My previous hospital experience is of Southmead in Bristol (OK), and the Royal Free in London (disgustingly filthy and dangerously inept). I did have a few criticisms of this one but overall it's by FAR the best hospital I've ever stayed in.

K Forde,

Thank you very much for your feedback. The County’s staff work hard to deliver high standards of care and positive comments from patients are always appreciated. It is good to hear that you were impressed with the levels of cleanliness and hygiene. Infection control is our highest priority and we we have a duty to maintain these standards for our patients.
