"One nurse cannot mention specific ..."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

(as a relative),

What I liked

One nurse cannot mention specific names but they were the only saving grace for my dad's last stay in St Mary's.

What could be improved

Cleanliness. The floor was dirty and had dried stains on it. Towelling slippers came out from under the bed filthy and covered in fluff. I ran my hand along the tv and it too was covered in dirt/dust. Comode not removed for hours. Constant requests for sick bowls ignored. Treatment by some staff poor ie an enema caused my father great pain and yet when my dad and I complained a staff member was dismissive and on the point of patronising.

Anything else?

Being dragged out of bed every morning at 6am to have his sheets changed. Despite the fact that the hospital had been unable to get my fathers anti-sickness right and therefore he was vomitting almost constantly, so little sleep not to mention the fact he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Having his sheets changed at 6am were not a priority to him! Also why are people with mental health issues not separated? My dad had to contend with waking up to find the next door patient weeing in his sick bowl, going through his private things in his cabinet, waking my dad in the night by moving his bed and looming over him to even moving family belongings out of a chair and sitting down and joining my dad and family. He would also follow my dad to the toilets. Totally unacceptable.
