"Speedy operation but some problems post-op"

About: Whiston Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I broke my leg and was taken in straight away and operated on the next day. The speed and quality of that part of my treatment was excellent and my leg is healing well.

However there were some problems. My bandage was on two tight and was really uncomfortable and I spend 2 days begging the staff to take a look. My leg wasn't raised and was pressed up against the bed board and was very uncomfortable. The doctor on duty said he couldn't do anything because he was a 'hand doctor' and the nurses seemed to scared to look in case something was wrong.

Eventually I got someone to look and it turned out that there was a hard a spiky shard of dried blood that had been bandaged over and the bandage wasn't actually needed. Noticed a big difference between day and night staff. Staff also didn't listen when I asked for the heat to be turned down. I then vomited with the heat and pain and they seemed frustrated with me for this.

(HW Liverpool posting for the patient.)
