"Amazing service - staff the very best asset."

About: Warwick Hospital

Having just had a full hysterectomy at Warwick (Wednesday 8th April), I felt moved to write and commend the service and care I have received. All the staff treated me with respect, kindness and good humour and I was again reminded of the brilliant front line resources the NHS can call upon. Yes, we are privileged to have the NHS service in this country - hugely privileged - but by far and away the overwhelming privilege we have, are the people who work within the service. Special mention must please go to the lovely staff for their excellent surgical skills and follow up support, when it didn’t go 100% smoothly (I spent most of the day in hospital yesterday having follow up checks on a suspected bleed, and the efficiency and care was superb.) I was lucky enough to be on the 23 hour unit where each and every member of staff played their part - all of them were brilliant but special mention to a fantastic member of staff, smilingly making tea and filling water jugs; the unswervingly good humoured, supportive and knowledgable nurses who kept me sane during morphine addled weepy moments; the unflappable, smiling and patient nurse - please pass on my thanks to each and every one of them. There was a slight hiccup with a case of suspected (but not then confirmed) noro-virus on my bay, but the whole team swung into action briskly, restricting access to our bay, allocating us one nurse who stayed in with us and a thorough deep clean of the bay as soon as the poorly patient had been moved out. All this was done with minimum fuss, including us in the discussions, and with clear explanation to the patients and families affected. To reiterate - they acted responsibly and quickly to a suspected case, nipping it in the bud before it had the chance to spread (and we were all relieved it was not confirmed in the end.) And yesterday - a nurse on Oken Ward - drawing blood painlessly from a stressed me and seeking us out in the hospital canteen to bring us to the doctor who had come out between surgeries to assess my care needs - and the fantastic nurse on the Oken scanning unit - so patient in helping me and making the scanning experience as comfortable as possible. In this day and age people are all too quick to criticise and complain. More important is to recognise the sterling work of these front line individuals who do this job tirelessly, day in day out. This was recognisably not a one off - this is good core people and I am very happy that I live in Warwickshire to be cared for by them.
