"A thank you to lead midwife"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

A letter of thanks sent by me to Jackie Scott Breast Feeding Lead MIdwife Good Hope Hospital...

I’m sure you receive many letters and cards like this, saying thank you for the invaluable help you give to people but I wanted to say a personal thank you for the help you have given to me and my son (born 6 weeks prematurely), with his tongue tie and breast feeding.

My family and I are incredibly grateful to you for arranging the tongue-tie procedure so quickly (within 4 days! ) as we were told that there was a 3 week wait.

In relation to the breast feeding support you have given to my son and I, I’m not sure we would still be doing it and so successfully without your help.

Your approach and manner with new moms is just perfect! You have the ability to listen and observe moms and babies and give tailor made advice, making moms feel confident and empowered to continue feeding their babies themselves.

I have met other breast-feeding ‘guru’s’ who have been a little condescending and patronizing but you manage to get the balance of encouragement and advice just right. You manage to make each mom feel that they are important and that you have time for them despite the fact you are in incredibly high demand.

I sincerely hope the Hospital Trust and your superiors appreciate how vital you are and have been to hundreds if not thousands of families. You deserve a medal!

Thank you so much,

P. S. Thank you for finding the breast pump for me to borrow even if it does look archaic!

Response from Marie Helebert, Patient Services Officer, Patient Services, Heart of England Foundation Trust

Dear michellej2902

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments and the contents of your thank you card to Jackie Scott our Infant Breast Feeding Co-ordinator at Good Hope Hospital.

Many congratulations on the birth of your baby boy. I'm sure it must have been a very worrying time to have your baby a few weeks early and then to deal with the added worry of your son requiring a procedure when so little. It is heartwarming to read that Jackie was able to assist in getting this resolved in minimum time and distress, and offer lots of support and reassurance to you in the first weeks of breastfeeding your baby.

Your feedback is hugely important to both the individual staff concerned and also to the whole team. I will ensure that Jackie Scott is aware of your post here, and that your comments are highlighted to Maggie Coleman, Head of Midwifery at Good Hope Hospital, as well as our Communications Team so that your feedback can be included in the trust-wide staff bulletin.

I hope that my actions are acceptable and please contact me if I can be of any other assistance.

Kind Regards

Marie Helebert
