"just turned 16"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

on Thursday 16th April my son needed medical attention, so we arrived at 5pm i thought he still go to children's A&E as he still at school and just turned 16 and i had accompanied him . but no he had to go to urgent care and wait an hour just to see a doctor just to get referred back to adult a&e and wait another 2 hours in the yellow zone in which they had to do a x ray and get the results , i know this takes time but i asked when we will be seen after waiting for an hour again in the yellow zone after the x ray i was snapped at with just waiting for the doctor , we were seen about 15 minutes later by a nurse saying the doctor had to go somewhere (i understood this) then the nurse saw my son and said yes you broke a bone and we need to strap this and said to take paracetamol for pain relief and wait for fracture clinic to contact you . but i noticed on the computer screen my son name was in red . i want to know what this means ???

Dear reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to share your son's experience with us. We are really sorry to hear you felt unsatisfied with his care. We know that waiting around in A&E can be a stressful time, and although from what you describe we appreciate this feels like a long wait, it seems you were seen within the national 4-hour target which all hospitals strive to meet. There is however, no excuse for a member of staff to 'snap' at you and for that, we apologise. We would struggle to explain why your son's name appeared in red on the screen (did you not ask the nurse at the time to explain?) as we don't have access to clinical systems and you have posted this anonymously. If you would like these concerns to be investigated in more detail, please share further information with us such as your son's name, DOB and address, along with any details/names of the staff who you felt didn't offer Caring at its Best. You can send this to communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk and we will liaise with the A&E team on your behalf. Kind regards Laura Mort Communications Team Leicester's Hospitals
