"Seriously, don't bother"

I've had several bad experiences in York hospital. The most recent being at A&E. I had ongoing chest pain and was advised by my GP to attend of symptoms worsened which they did. The nurse practitioner who triaged me was lovely and could see I was in a lot of pain and got me some pain killers. There was no cubicle to put me in so I ended up sat on a hard chair until a cubicle became available. (Not ideal when you are in a lot of pain!) I was later transferred to a cubicle and some tests undertaken. I then waited over 4 hours to be seen by a doctor, the HCAs and nursing staff were lovely and kept popping their heads round the door to say sorry for the wait and that I hadn't been forgotten. I was seen by a rather dismissive and rude doctor who seemed to resent my being there. Criticised my GP for the treatment I had already had then said some tears would be done and of they were okay I could go home. Some time later I went to ask about the tests and the doctor said: "Are you still here? I thought you had gone." When I replied I was there because they said they would review my tests they then told me I was fine to go (without so much as look on at any results!). No attempt was made to address my concerns (having chest pain is quite a scary experience!) and no advice given regarding how I could manage my symptoms at home. Having worked in the NHS for a number of years, it's disappointing to see standards are so low. If treating patients is a genuine hardship and compassion and reassurance aren't a strong point then perhaps some practitioners need to rethink their career choice!)
