"My GP and mental health"

About: NHS England London

(as the patient),

I know GP's are getting a lot of bad press a the moment because of the difficulties many are experiencing with getting an appointment to see their GP. At my local surgery it is normal to find the next available appointment is 2-3 weeks away, but they do offer same day appointments in the case of an emergency on a first come first served basis. My GP is 100% committed to her patients and never complains or even mentions the very difficult circumstances within which all GP's are now expected to work.

I have a chronic mental health condition and when I am unwell Dr Ruddy and the team have always done their best by me, sometimes agreeing to see me at the end of their surgery in an emergency. They have bent over backwards in my opinion to offer the best service possible within the constraints that exist and I am truly grateful to them all for this.

All that being said, things could and should be so much better which is why I have set up a blog and have been writing about how the NHS is affordable, offering suggestions and ideas about how the additional funding it so desperately needs already exists, it's just not being allocated according to need.
