I had been ill for about a week and, after visiting a gp, my condition deteriorated which resulted in a visit to PAH A&E. I was diagnosed with an infection, fever and dehydration, as the infection had stopped me drinking. The staff were professional, efficient, and worked extremely well as a team. I was seen within 10 mins of arriving. While tests were being completed they put me straight onto intravenous painkillers and fluids which made me a lot more comfortable. While the staff originally were unsure what specfically was wrong, they were honest about this and consulted with colleagues effectively, which was reassuring. Ultimately, when test results came back I had to be transferred to a specialist centre in Chelmsford. Transport and attendence was arranged within the hour, during which I was stabilised with medication. They fully explained everything and managed my expectations well. They regularly checked on my needs, be it clinical or comfort. Being in hospital is never pleseant, but all of the PAH A&E staff should be very proud of the service they provide.
