"Our daughter is left without support"

About: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Child and adolescent mental health care (community)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has suffered mental health problems for the past 3 years including anxiety disorder and acute OCD. . Our experience of our local CAMHS has been erratic! It started well with a great councillor and at this point my daughter was just refusing to attend school. She then started self harming and we were moved up a gear and given a councillor who seemed more interested in talking about himself.

My daughter started to attend a health needs school 6 months later and started to improve. Despite a set back she was doing well. Her councillor changed and she was able to move back to mainstream education. However last year her counsellor left and was not replaced! My daughter started to deteriorate just after Christmas and her self harming and lack of self control resulted in a number of trips to A&E.

It was on the second visit she absconded from the hospital and the police spent 2 hours looking for her before she was found. She was then admitted to an adolescent psychiatric ward in London and spent 2 1/2 months on the ward receiving treatment. During this time our local CAMHS service were invited to meetings which they said they would attend and not turn up!

My daughter was discharged 10 days ago and is currently receiving no community support! We had a meeting 4 days after discharge so they could meet my daughter and at that meeting me were assured that they would phone with an appointment for the following week. At the end of last week I phoned twice as this had not happened but was unable to speak to anyone and was promised that they would phone back. This did not happen!

We are now left in the situation where my daughter has gone from 24/7 care to nothing and despite promising to arrange time to begin treatment within the community this has not happened. We feel very let down and are concerned for our daughters well being as the longer she is left once again she will deteriorate and all the fantastic work she had done on the ward will have been for nothing.
