"accident and emergency is soul destroying"

About: Croydon University Hospital

the receptionist's welcome is 'there's a 3 hour waiting time, do you still want to see a Doctor?' the receptionists themselves sit behind screens that are raised or lowered by small motors. Presumably these are there for their protection but as they are used at all times the effect is quite dehumanising, once you are dealt with the little screen goes down in case of an imminent attack from one of the patients. The doors remain open all the the night for some reason. Not only making it cold but also so that cigarette smoke and vehicle fumes can drift In. It looks like the hospital got a good deal on some seating from hm prisons, if you think you're going to be comfortable during your many hours wait. I would think again. They are solid metal and probably one of the most depressing pieces of furniture possible. Other niggles include rubbish on the floor and a general random splatter of notices. Not very visually relaxing. I ended up waiting nearly 4 hours from 1am on a week night. Considering I was in pain and not feeling too good I can honestly say the wait was one of the worst experiences in my life. The Waiting room is an embarrassment to who's responsible for it. I won't be going again and considering you'll be waiting 4 hours anyway you may as well go further afield.
