"Excellent care, excellent service"

My Father was transferred to this hospital from Hereford on one of the busiest days of the year (Easter Monday). Minster ward was extremely clean and tidy. The staff were welcoming and the GP who saw and reviewed my Father went well beyond expected standards to review the detail of his condition. The staff were competent as well as compassionate and treated my Father with kindness and respect. Most importantly of all his care was individualised, rather than slavishly following a computer driven template, professional staff used their experience and training to listen to him, establish his wishes and deliver the right care in the way he wanted to receive it. Both the GP and the occupational therapist were particularly noteworthy in their approach to assessing the care Dad needed. They involved my mother and me appropriately and provided information about ongoing support. They trod the challenging line of maintaining professional advice alongside assessing the risk of the patient's wishes superbly. The nursing staff of all grades were facilitating and observant. The only possible point of learning we can offer for service improvement is that when physiotherapy exercises are recommended it would be helpful to have the instructions written down to aid compliance. Having seen a huge range of care both within the NHS and outside it, I can honestly say that the service here was exemplary.
