"New icash department appalling lack of privacy."

About: Contraception and Sexual Health (ICaSH)

The new facilities at Oak Street are completely inappropriate. There is a total lack of privacy at reception creating a high confidentiality risk. Any sense of dignity is instantly eradicated on entering the vast, hall like waiting room. Many service users are already anxious, and feeling vulnerable when visiting these services ; self esteem can be low and the new reception area/combined waiting room does nothing to alleviate this. On arrival today I was initially hopeful but having climbed the stairs to the reception area I was suddenly struck with horror and disappointment. I felt completely exposed and could barely bring myself to speak at the desk. I have been a regular service user for a number of years and despite being satisfied with treatment and staff input in general this visit has created a whole new level of anxiety for me. Who ever was responsible for the design and layout of this new facility obviously has no idea what it's like to be a service user. I have serious concerns about returning to this clinic. For some this is a life long connection between patient and service provider and in that time one would expect change, in fact embrace it but not when such essential and basic requirements are neglected, overlooked and ignored. This dreadful lack of thought and concern has had great impact on me personally. My confidence and trust in the service has been knocked to a point that could potentially cause emotional and mental upset. If it isn't already clear, I am appalled, shocked and angry with this facility. These services are supposedly confidential, understanding, professional and patient orientated. . . Fail
