"Inpatient first at SouthMead and then Heart..."

About: Bristol Royal Infirmary

I have spent a total 34 days in the two hospitals and have been very disappointed with the information that has been forthcoming. After being diagnosed with narrowed arteries a bypass operation was recommended. I was told that I could be referred back to the NNUH or it would be much quicker to have it done at the BRI I was therefore given the choice the BRI was the logical choice. I was referred to the BRI on the 17 of March and sat at Southmead till Tue the 31 of March waiting a Date and a bed at the BRI . I was rushed to the BRI at 1.30 having been told the operation was launched on Wed.. It is now April the 6th no operation and no date for an operation. The recommendations of a quicker waiting time and operation at the BRI was false and I fell letdown and misled by staff.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your operation at the Bristol Heart Institute was delayed. We would be very happy to look into this further for you if you feel that you have not been given a clear explanation of the reasons for this (please talk to a member of staff on your ward or contact our Patient Support and Complaints Team on 0117 342 1050). It sounds as though the intitial advice was provided by Southmead Hospital, and so we have passed your feedback on to our colleagues at North Bristol Trust for information. Thanks again for taking the time to post a comment on NHS Choices.
