I was taken to Basildon hospitall with a kidney infection. I got triaged quickly and the triage nurse was sympathetic and helpful. I was taken to a cubicle and from there the experience was downhill. Even though I was in excruciating pain I had to badger the staff for pain relief.when eventually it came I was offered paracetamol despite on three separate occasions making it clear I had taken it less than an hour previously. Of course had I taken the paracetamol It would have been an overdose despite pointing this out to the nurse who was still encouraging me to take it!!! Alternative pain relief was administered, however, this was not effective I was told "you are not in pain you have had your pain relief. I do not think its acceptable for anyone to insinuate that I am lying particularly as I was in distress. Secondly the fact I have Asperger's syndrome was brought up and that because I have Asperger's it was possible that I was confused and perhaps only thought I was in pain because I was getting into a panic. Then the nurse had muttered what clearly sounded like an offensive remark regarding my Asperger's. The first comment was patronising and ignorant the second comment was abusive. Both totally disgraceful. My health issues urological and chronic pain issues are complex and clearly were not thoroughly understood I had produced a letter from my relevant specialists with important information within the opportunity was not taken and two separate requests to contact my specialist centre was refused. Fortunately this whole debacle was witnessed. Statements from us both will be written and I will seriously consider taking this matter as far as I can. On a brighter note my treatment on the ward was acceptable. And at least there seemed to be a willingness to understand the issues.
