What I liked
I brought my nan to this hospital after she was referred from our Isle of wight hospital. she needed a specialist endoscopy. Apart from the old computer system having her address very very wrong (one from 15 years ago!) she was treated very well by the staff and reassured as much as possible by the doctors and nurses. They even did her biopsy the same day to save her coming back from the Island again (which is not cheap) They are awaiting further tests and will communicate through her island consultant but have warned her the surgery she needs may need to be done at Bournemouth. It is a way away but she and the family wouldn't not be angry if this was the case.
A very well run department with pleasant and hard working staff.
What could be improved
Not enough seating in the endoscopy department. I accompanied my nana as she was very scared, and i myself am awaiting extensive patella repair surgery and needed a seat. i was barked at by a receptionist to 'get up' as i wasn't a patient. Maybe not, but i had a better need for a seat than the three young kids accompanying one of the other patients.
Also, the previously mentioned comment re:out dated records system. The address they had is 15 years out of date and has since been knocked down. We had to ring to get another set of confirmation documents.
Anything else?
The tea and coffee and sandwich option for those coming around from endoscopy sedation was a nice welcomed touch!
