i brought my daughter into a&e due to the inside of her mouth and lip area swelling up. the paeds nurse that saw her first was fantastic, but then we had to wait a while to see a paeds doctor to see what the problem was. she had high heart rate and high temp which the nurse gave paracetamol for. there happened to be an emergency which took away the paeds doctors so my daughter who is 6 years old had to see an a&e doc. this doctor after saying had an ear and throat infection said they would get the antibiotics but half an hour later was still not back. i looked for them and they were sat in the next room on the computer. i asked for the meds and they went off. 15 mins later they returned asking me to mix my daughters penicillin. i immediately said no and they said it was easy and shows you how on the bottle. i said no again and they walked off to get a nurse to do it. as though they were too busy. it might sound trivial but how can a doctor ask a parent to mix their own kids meds. i dont think this is right. i work in the hospital and understand that nurses/docs are busy, but atleast make sure you finish treating the patient fully! but, massive thanks to the nurse that saw my daughter. brilliant :)
