I had planned to have my first baby in the MLU at Pontefract but due to having a second episode of no foetal movement I was admitted and induced at 39 weeks. The first midwife who treated me (put in the first pessary) did not introduce themself and did not discuss the procedure, why I was there and what would happen and what I could expect. It was a pretty traumatic experience as the midwife did not do it as quickly as you might like, and considering this was my first ever stay in a hospital never mind my first baby, I grew more upset overnight and the following day as the pessary are didn't work and I was informed the Dr would come and do the next one. The doctor did introduce themself but they didn't discuss the process with me and whilst the pessary came out, they examined me and decided I needed another one, again, no one discussed or even explained this to my husband or I and then I was stuck in the same position for another 24 hours. I then heard another midwife admitting another lady in the bed opposite me and heard her be given full explanations, the opportunity to ask questions and even given leaflets, I lost it a little bit and when my husband returned to find me alone and in tears, he went to make a complaint to the midwife. Following this I found my treatment was a lot better, the midwives and the Drs all spoke to me and explained things and asked if I had questions. I didn't come across the first midwife again and. I was there for 5 days and nights and have no other complaints at all, even small ones. The Drs and midwives that delivered my baby were amazing, the midwife that came on shift just after things were finally getting into gear, and stayed with me throughout my labour was fantastic and I would seriously consider coming back to Pinders again and would recommend to anyone.
