What I liked

The ward was clean. The Play Leader was wonderful.

What could be improved

Appalling care for a children's ward. Nurses actually nursing would help. It took 24hrs to get a jug of water for my son, another 24hrs to get a glass. I had to go to the shop for drinks for him - he is diabetic. The 'Reception' staff should visit a local travelodge to see what ;reception' means. When we arrived the 'receptionist' didn't look at us, just told us which bay to go to. We sat for almost an hour not knowing what was happening. A simple 'Good morning and welcome to the ward, please wait in your bay and your nurse will be along as soon as she can' would have helped. I asked reception for a jug of water, even offered to get it myself and was told my nurse would get it when she got out of her meeting . Something is seriously wrong with the staff - the hospital really need to sort this out as it is dangerous to patients. The food is truly awful! I did most of my son's nursing while he was in the ward. Alarm bells on drips are ignored, driving my son and I demented. When a nurse appeared, they would either help or ignore it.

Anything else?

It makes me so angry as other parts of the hospital - audiology, orthopedic outpatients are brilliant and this ward and Ampney where my sister recently stayed show a dreadful lack of care for patients and neglect. So much money has gone in to the NHS and nurses are well paid with secure jobs - what a shame the system doesn't deliver. I would advise anyone staying in this hospital to keep a diary of their stay and write and complain or compliment afterwards. We are paying through our taxes for a first class service and, unfortunately it is third world care.
