"Arranging a 2 year developmental check..."

About: Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust / Health visiting

(as a parent/guardian),

I was offered an appointment for my daughter's two year developmental check, when she was two years five months. I understand the service is busy - was not too bothered by the delay. Initially offered an appointment that I needed to reschedule due to work - once this was finally rearranged I received a phone call on the morning of the arranged visit and was told the Health Visitor was ill and she would contact me on her return to re-arrange. I heard nothing, and found out that she had left the service. It was at least a couple of weeks before I received another appointment through the post (I had mentioned to a work colleague that I had heard nothing and as she worked in the team was able to ask someone to contact me? ! ) - but I needed to reschedule, again, despite leaving message about days I could and couldn't do. So, I called and left a message to say I needed to cancel, and was advised I'd receive a call or an alternative appointment - I have heard nothing. It is a really, really bad service and it is a good job that I am not an anxious mother with any concerns about my daughter. I wish to decline the developmental review - not that anyone has tried to rearrange one with me? ! My daughter is now almost 2 years 7 months.

Dear Wonderland

As the lead for the Health Visiting service in Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust I can see that you are clearly very disappointed with the service offered to you for your child's two to two and a half year developmental review.

We are very keen to engage with working parents but in this instance it is clear that the team did not communicate with you as to how they could accommodate your requirements.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this situation with you and feed any learning into the teams and the wider service so that we accommodate appointments for parents in a more flexible way with prompt responses to messages.

As there are no time limits on when a child's development can be reviewed I will also ensure an assessment of your child's development is offered.

Please feel free to contact me on my mobile phone: 07919534573

Regards

Maria
