"Achieving an EEG!!!"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

I had to bring my son Tom a severely autistic non verbal adult with challenging behaviour to have an EEG, post seizure. I was very doubtful this would be possible as Tom cannot even tolerate a haircut! The doctor and an assistant who carried out the EEG were amazing. They did their utmost to make Tom at ease and paced the whole procedure at the rate Tom could tolerate and showed him what was being put on his head and gave him a contact to hold. An event I was dreading, as he can get very aggressive when frightened and confused, turned into a massive achievement for Tom. I was so proud of him. This was only accomplished due to the experience, care and professionalism of the neurology department at the RDE Exeter. Thank you so much. Jane
