"Children s Urology"

About: Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital

Sadly I cannot agree with the views of the other parents/relatives who have placed comments on this site. My concerns relate to my 2.5 year old grandson who is in need of urgent surgery to his genital area. My daughter and her partner saw a private consultant in March 2014 and was told he required urgent surgery, but this wasn't the start of their journey my grandson has had this problem since the age of one and has been pushed from one health care professional to another. In short my daughter has had nothing but problems in trying to get my grandson seen, waiting months on end to hear from the hospital when they will be operate, even after signing consent to surgery forms she had to chased them up weeks later for a date only to be told he had been discharged?. After further phone calls and a lot of time wasted two letters come at the same time for appointments for one day after the other and to take place in two different hospitals, one for post op review! the other for out patience? Obviously right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing! but this is at the expense of my grandson being in discomfort, his mobility being affected, not being able to use the potty and play, he is a very active little boy but his condition is holding him back. I don't have enough characters in this blog to give the finite detail but please take it from me it reads like a horror story for any parents who are trying to get their child seen in this department. I'm in no doubt that there are departments and staff in the hospital that provide a very good service I just wish we were party to it. Our concerns are such that we have now taken them to CQC the Health & Social Care Regulator. They will not investigate our complaint but they will gather this data and it will form part of any inspections they make on the hospital in the future. Take it from someone who knows an ex CQC inspector.
