"Sub standard care over 78 days."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

Experienced the most miserable time visiting a relative over the last 78 days. The standard of care was unacceptable especially in ward 7 The patient walked into the hospital but due to the incompetence of how ward 7 is run, she no longer is able to walk unaided. She was discharged without trousers as these had been lost by ward 23 who also lost her glasses. Ward 5 lost her footwear. The social reenablement team lied to the next of kin and to the ward manager and consultant. Physiotherapy was a joke. Tripping hazards abound across the wards Urine bags were left to overflowing. Patient's with dementia abandoned in toilets for over 20 minutes at a time. Other patients, clearly in distress, ignored by disinterested staff. Call buttons placed out of reach of patients. Male patients observed climbing into unoccupied beds in female bays.. Car parking is a nightmare weekdays The HVS are the only positive although it was difficult to fault RATU or ward 9 who did seem to care In A & E it would be nice if staff, especially the Sisters made eye contact. The ambulance check in is not fit for purpose. Crews can be held for 90 minutes before their emergency is handed over to A&E and only then does the 4 hour wait start to be measured Who is fooling whom? ,

Dear Sir / Madam, I am responding to this post immediately because the issues you raise are many and are extremely serious. I would like to know that they have been formally investigated so that we can establish what we need to learn and act quickly to improve matters. I am genuinely sorry that you have had such a poor experience and have been left with little confidence in the care your relative received. While it is very disappointing to read, I am extremely grateful that you have taken the time to record your concerns and to share them. Would you please get in touch directly - my email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk . Without any further details I have no means of looking into this further and it very important that we do so. Thanks for your help with this, Annie
