"Visit to Accident and Emergency Department"

About: Gosport War Memorial Hospital

Visited accident and emergency department with my colleague and a client of ours. Our client had an operation 10 days ago at QA hospital, Portsmouth on their hand. The dressing was soaked in blood and the wound had opened up. When speaking to reception they said that they were not sure they would be able to redress the hand and wen to get a nurse. The nurse asked my client to follow them into the check up room. When coming out they said to my client that they would be able to help him and he would need to take a number for them to be able to take his details and book him in. We were informed it would be at least a 2hour wait which we were ok with as had prior warning. After waiting 2hours my client was called to the reception. A nurse behind the reception screen stated that their practitioner has told them that they can not look at the hand as it may be infected and they need to go to QA hospital, Portsmouth. The nurse did not come out from behind reception and no one had looked at the hand since the first nurse who told my client to wait in the waiting area. By this time my client was fed up and declined my offer to take him to QA as he would have no other way for getting there. This was a very frustrating experience I had other client I had to cancel seeing due to being at hospital. The staffs were all polite, however, it is clear that they do not communicate with each other. We also do not understand how a decision could be made without the hand being looked at a second time since being told the first time that they could help.
