I had a miscarriage in Jan 2008 and was taken by ambulance to Heartlands Hospital as due to blood loss I had very low blood pressure. Unfortunately, this happened on a Saturday night. I was placed on a stretcher in a corridor with many drunken people. I didn’t feel it was a friendly or safe atmosphere for me. Some hours later when I saw a doctor, I was told to go home and have some paracetomol and that I could have a scan but in 10 days time. I was given no support help or advice. I was told by the consultant to present myself at City Hospital as a new case as they could not refer me and that they would check that the baby had fully come away. Again, I received no offers of counselling and was put in a waiting room full of very expectant mothers. It was traumatic enough for me but I feel the lack of trained staff, information and facilities was not good.
