"I was seen quickly and efficiently"

About: Southern General Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I attended the Southern General Hospital for a full body bone scan. I had to attend at 10: 30 for the injection of the radio isotope and then return to the department at 13: 30. Both times, I was seen quickly and efficiently by a radiographer called Diane (I think) who was lovely. She explained exactly what would happen and advised me of the particular things I was to do following the injection.

The scan itself took about half an hour and was not unpleasant at all, although the scanner does get quite close to your face. The room was quiet and calm, but perhaps a little bit of background music could be played during the procedure.

The information I received with my appointment letter was useful and helped me prepare for the scan and also showed a map of how to get to the department.

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear evelynv,

I appreciate you getting in touch with your feedback on your recent appointment at the Southern General. I am pleased to hear that the information that came with your appointment letter was helpful to you - feeling well prepared and informed can really help patients to feel much more calm about their appointment or procedure. You also point out how this is enhanced by staff who take the time to explain everything fully and clearly and I am sure that Diane will be pleased to know that this made a difference to you.

I will pass on your comments to the department so they can see the positive feedback you have provided, as well as your suggestion that some music would be a positive addition to the procedure.

Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch,

Best Wishes,

Lorna
