"First scan"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

Today I went to ntgh hospital for my 12 weeks scan. This is my first child so I was very excited and didn't know what to expect. Due to trafic I was around 5 minutes late. When I arrived the ward clerk took my notes and checked me in. They did not mention a problem with me being late. I walked in to waiting room and a healthcare worker with a horrible attitude spoke to me like I was 12. They told me they probably wouldn't let me have a scan done today because I was late . I was heart broken so I went to the toilet and had a little cry. I was with my mother who when the healthcare worker came out and said they would see me was rude and snappy because I was in the toilet they just assumed I was having a wee. They didn't realise they had upset me and I was crying. Eventually I was called in and in the blink of a eye I was rushed out the door again. I got to look at my baby for no more than 3 minutes . The midwife didn't even introduce themselves to me they sat with their back to me clicking on their computer. The other healthcare worker in the room however was a lot more plesent than the other two. On the screen the baby was very clear and I could make it out perfectly however they printed out a terrible picture of a blob. I even paid extra for more pictures and only got one. To say I am disappointed is a understatement. Defiantly be moving hospitals and going to Rvi.

Dear Jaz, Thank you very much for sharing this with us. I am sorry that your very first scan and opportunity to see you baby has been marred by this. The behaviour you describe is completely unacceptable and I am truly sorry that it has caused you to lose faith in our organisation as a whole. I am sure you will appreciate how important it is that we act on this info immediately in order to discover what happened that day in more detail and work with the staff involved to help them understand the impact on you. I would be so grateful then if you would kindly get in touch with me directly : Annie.laverty@nhct.nhs to share your name and dates of when you were in to see us. Genuinely sorry once again. I hope the remainder of your pregnancy and assessments go well. With all best wishes, Annie
