My uncle was found on floor at his home, taken to a&e who were fantastic, and transferred to CDU, where the nightmare began.
He hadn't been fed or offered a drink, when I questioned it the staff on duty told me that he got given a meal and they took it away untouched. My uncle has had a stroke and unable at present to feed himself or even reach a cup. I asked if someone could assist him, to be told: "we don't have enough staff for this." This is basic care.
I was also told he had been washed and changed. This was a blatant lie, as whilst helping him to eat food I bought in, I had marked his top the evening before. He was still in the same top.
Also the assessment the staff had written for the day clearly stated he had got out of bed, and walked. I questioned this to be told "oh I'll have to change that". Really?
This poorly 92 year old independent gentleman was not cared for in my eyes. My family now have a rota system in place to ensure food is bought in and he is helped at every mealtime.
"Concerned about basic nursing care on CDU"
